One Word 2011

So as I was scouring the blog world today (I'm addicted, it's true) I happened across a blog called Grit & Glory. Interesting already? I thought so. So I continued to peruse the blog and what I found made me stop and think. This blog is challenging all its readers and their friends to join in a movement called One Word 2011. What it is is instead of making a New Year's resolution you choose ONE WORD that you focus on for the entire year. Let it take you on a journey as it shapes you, guides your decisions, and helps you grow. And by the end of the year you'll find out just how much an impact one word can have in your life.

I immediately thought that this was a challenge for me because for as many times I have made New Year's resolutions I have never been able to keep them. And I have always thought that making New Year's resolutions is just plain silly because it makes you think that you can only make changes in your life only one time a year. I have found myself, a couple months into the year and realizing that I had not been keeping my resolutions, and just thinking to myself oh well, I can always start again next year. And I know many people who have thought the exact same thing. But the thing is, you can choose to make a change in your life ANY TIME.

Well, I'll get off my soap box now.

Anyway, so after a little bit of pondering, I realized that my word of choice for this year was actually pretty easy to discover. I chose listen because I have had a hard time doing this. It is so difficult to be able to listen and hear what God is telling us because He's not here in a physical being. So in choosing this word I hope to learn to be able to listen to God and to know what it is He is telling me, especially in the area of college and choosing a major.

So why not try joining me this year in the One Word 2011 movement. You never know what can happen if you don't first try.
